A group of researchers from several institutions have been following the new introduced marine species in the region, the manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum. These clams have been observed along the coast of Massachusetts, from Beverly on the North shore to Chatham on Cape Cod. The group continues meeting monthly since September 2025 to coordinate sampling efforts, genetic analysis and next steps for this study. On February 2026, the group also submitted the manuscript “Completing the journey in the Global North: The Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum) (Bivalvia: Veneridae) arrives in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean” for consideration to be published in Biological Invasions.
